Pool Swim Jets

Which swim jet fits your pool? Pool length and flow, side by side

Prices and specs read Nov 4, 2026. Sources listed at the bottom.

If your pool is shorter than about 13 feet, a swim jet won't work well. If it's longer, pool length and water depth pick the model for you, and the strongest jet is often the wrong one for a smaller pool.

Flow is measured in gallons per minute (GPM), meaning how much water the jet pushes out. More flow means a stronger current. It also means more chop if the pool is short, because the water hits the far wall and bounces back at you.

All the models, side by side

These are the only swim jets this site links to. Both lines come from iGarden. Prices are what iGarden's store showed on Nov 4, 2026.

Start here: your pool's longest straight swim path

Measure the longest straight line you could swim, not the pool's stated size. On a round or kidney-shaped pool that line is shorter than you'd guess.

Under 13 ftSkip the swim jetiGarden's own floor is about 13 ft. A review site says a 12 ft pool bounces the current off the far wall and turns it to chop.
13 to 15 ftX Lite or X AirThe lowest flows of the clamp-on line. A strong jet in a short pool mostly makes waves.
15 to 20 ftX5, or P160 if you have an in-ground pool and want a drilled-in unitiGarden pairs the X5 with metal-frame or hard-wall pools of 15 ft and up.
20 ft and longerX Pro 10, P200 or P230Enough room for 1,000-plus GPM without the rebound. These are the training-grade jets.

That second table is this site's reading of iGarden's flow guidance and the chop warnings. No published test of these pairings turned up, so treat the lengths as a starting point and not a rule.

How much flow do you actually need

iGarden's rule of thumb, from its own buying guide: roughly 400 to 600 GPM for casual swimming, 700 to 900 for regular fitness and family use, and above 1,000 for serious training. It also warns that a very strong current in a small pool is worse than a mid-range one. That's the maker talking, and nobody outside iGarden seems to have checked it.

One review of the X Pro 10 says that on the first two speed settings the current pushes you back once you stop kicking, and that on the P4 setting swimming against it is "practically impossible". That's the reviewer's impression, not a measured number.

Water depth

You need about 3.5 feet of water where you swim, according to iGarden's buying guide, its above-ground guide and the pwice.com roundup. The X Series store page gives a lower mounting number, water deeper than 30 inches. Go by the 3.5 feet. A jet that can mount at 30 inches may still push water across the surface instead of through it.

Numbers left out

These conflict, sometimes on the same iGarden page, so none of them is printed until they're settled:

If one of these matters to your decision, email iGarden support and ask them to put the answer in writing.
